The BFG

This scrumdiddlyumptious delight of a children’s novel is about a young human girl named Sophie and her adventures with the book's titular character, the Big Friendly Giant. This is an exciting roller coaster of a tale that includes almost as many not-quite-dictionary-approved words as ordinary ones. Sophie and the BFG go to great lengths, including visiting the Queen of England’s bedroom, to ensure that nine human-eating giants are captured and brought to justice. Roald Dahl’s penchant for playing with words comes through strongly here to make this an incredibly engaging and entertaining read for kids. Other books like “The BFG” include “James and the Giant Peach” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” both books by Roald Dahl that feature colorful characters.
