This classic Roald Dahl book features young Matilda, a gifted young genius who is held back and uncared for by her seedy, unintelligent, and brutish family as well as her terrifying school headmistress, the Trunchbull. This is a wonderful story that promotes wanting to be intelligent and “brainy-ness” as good qualities. This story is filled with humor, especially from the creative pranks Matilda plays on her family. Filled with mischief, Trunchbull’s tyranny, and a sweet ending, this book is a must-read for young kids, especially girls. Other books like this are Roald Dahl’s “James and the Giant Peach” and “The BFG.”
