A Wrinkle in Time

This scientific fantasy novel by Madeleine L’Engle follows 13-year old Meg Murry in her journey to find her missing father. Her genius younger brother Charles Wallace and schoolmate Calvin O’Keefe accompany her to alternate worlds, where they fight against the evil Black Thing trying to take over the universe. This novel has a very scientific tone, and can take some pages to get into, but it is truly worth it. L’Engle followed “A Wrinkle in Time” with four other books that make up the Time Quintet series, which follow the Murry and O’Keefe families. L’Engle has a very distinctive writing style, and “A Wrinkle in Time” is a wonderful book to read if your kid is into scientific themes but also fantasy. I’ve read this novel and the following books so many times, and I absolutely love how L’Engle ties all the stories in the Time Quintet together so intricately. I would definitely recommend this to any kid, but especially those with a serious, scientific bent.
